Making clean-up fun

You’re not alone if you find cleaning up with your children a challenge.

We know not every child will automatically pick up or put away the mess.

It will take time, your attention, consistency and enthusiasm, which is more difficult on some days than it is on others.

Encouraging your children to pick up after themselves will not only help you, but it also teaches them responsibility.

So let’s get creative, work together and make clean-up fun!

Here’s a few ways to motivate your children:

Race against the clock

  • You’re not alone if you find cleaning up with your children a challenge.
  • We know not every child will automatically pick up or put away the mess.

Make it a game or a race using an hourglass timer.

  • Keep clean-up sessions short so they are not daunted by the size of the task.

Get the party started

  • Music can be a great motivator.
  • Create a clean-up songs playlist to sing and groove to while cleaning.

Dress up and use imagination

  • Put on a fairy costume and sprinkle fairy dust over the mess to magically clean it up.
  • Become superheros and fly through the mess, saving all the toys as you go.

Special clean-up bag

  • Make it a treasure hunt at the end of the day with their own special bag.
  • Decorate personal canvas bags and see who can put more in the bag.
